Agates are generally tough stones, but the best cleaning method for tree agate is to simply use warm, soapy water and a soft brush. It is not recommended to use harsh chemicals when cleaning agate gemstones. Be sure to thoroughly dry tree agate jewelry after cleaning to ensure there is no residual moisture that could cause adverse reactions such as rust in metal settings. Store tree agate jewelry inside a soft cloth or at least away from other stones so as not to run the risk of scratching this agate against a harder stone or of scratching a less hard stone.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli has some durability problems that limit its suitability for certain uses. Lapis has a Mohs hardness of about 5, which makes it very soft for use in a ring, cuff links or bracelet - especially if the top of the stone is raised above the top of the setting or bezel. In these uses, lapis will show signs of abrasion with continued use.
Lapis is best used in earrings, pins, and pendants, where abrasion is less likely to occur. When stored as unmounted stones or in jewelry, lapis can be damaged if the pieces are not isolated from one another. Jewelry is best stored in separate boxes or bags, or in trays with separate compartments for each item. Loose cut stones should be stored in separate papers, in bags, or in gem containers where the stones will not rub or abrade one another.

Pearls are soft and should be treated delicately. Never use ultrasonic cleaners or steamers. Wipe gently with a soft cloth after each wearing or, for more thorough cleanings, use mild soap and water. If knotted, make sure the cord is completely dry before wearing.
Human skin oils are one of the best things for pearls. Pearl owners should wear theirs often enough to keep them looking lustrous. Take care to not use perfumes, colognes or lotions where pearls will be touching the skin as the gems will absorb what they come into contact with. Avoid lotions and skin care products which contain citrus oils, as even mild acids can dull the surface of pearls. Always remove pearls before engaging in exercise, as perspiration can also negatively affect the surface.
